Beverly “Bebbie” Whittelsey Whaley Collins

A celebration of life service for Beverly Whittelsey Whaley Collins will be held Saturday, July 29, 2017 at 11 AM  at the First United Methodist Church of Opelika with Rev. Robin Wilson officiating. The family will receive friends at the church prior to the service at 10 AM.

Mrs. Collins passed away July 25th at Jackson Hospital.  She was born on November 17, 1926 in Opelika to C. S. Whittelsey, Jr. and Lillian Evans Whittelsey.  Mrs. Collins was preceded in death by her parents; her first husband, Harold E. Whaley; husband, Winston T. Collins; sons, Colonel Harold Evans (Jemie Lynn) Whaley, and Second Lieutenant Sanders Anthony Whaley; sister, Lydia (Oliver W.) Ingram; and brother, C. S. (Whit) Whittelsey III.  She is survived by her daughter, Lynn (Haskel) Patterson; five grandchildren, Lieutenant Colonel Jim (Shannon) Whaley, Andy Whaley (Rachel Ketcham), Corrie Drake, Mallory Drake and Whit Patterson; 3 great-grandchildren, Isabelle, Nina and Cotton Whaley; nieces and nephews, Beverly (Marlin) Siegford, Carol (Mark) Manrique, Blake (Karen) Ingram, Sheldon (Anne) Whittelsey, Bena (David) DeVaney, and Davis (Margaret) Whittelsey; daughter-in-law, Leslie Whaley Meyer; sister-in-law, Sue Whittelsey, and 13 great-nieces and great-nephews.     

Mrs. Collins, “Bebbie” as she was best known, graduated from Henry G. Clift High School in Opelika then attended Huntington College, Auburn University and Little Rock University and worked in the banking industry for 25 years in Opelika. She was a lifelong active member of the First United Methodist Church of Opelika. She lived life to the fullest and throughout all of her trials and tribulations she always had a positive outlook and found a way to start the day with a smile.  Whatever adversity that came her way she met head on with determination and grit that was an example for all to follow.  She also enjoyed playing bridge and spending time with any and all of her family.
