Mrs. Eva R. Christenberry of Auburn, AL, passed away Saturday, August 5, 2017. Eva was born in Richards Crossroads, Barbour County, on February 12, 1926. She graduated from Alabama Polytechnic Institute with a B.S. in Foods and Nutrition in 1948 and completed an internship in theoretical study and practical work in administrative dietetics from Oklahoma State University in 1951. Eva served as a dietitian for 38 years with food service programs at Troy State University, Auburn University, and Auburn City Schools.
Eva is predeceased by her parents, Lois Lucas Richards and Thomas A. Richards, her sister Helen Wood, and brother Thomas A. Richards.
She is survived by her husband, Curtis C. Christenberry of Auburn, and her four children, Shirley Christenberry of Dadeville, AL, Yvonne (Bob) May of Smithfield, VA, Carl (Donna) Christenberry of San Ramon, CA, and Faye (Mel DeSart) Christenberry of Seattle, WA. She leaves two grandchildren, Justin (Robyn) May of Gainesville, FL, Christin (Coley) Jacobs of Davisburg, MI, two great-grandchildren, Maxwell Warren May and Emma May Jacobs as well as many nieces, nephews, other relatives and friends.
Eva was a member of the Auburn United Methodist Church, a devoted wife of 62 years, and a loving mother, grandmother, and great-grandmother. “Ms Eva” was a constant presence in the Auburn High School Cafeteria for many years. She enjoyed cooking, gardening and had an amazing green thumb.
A memorial service will be held on Tuesday, August 8 at 3:30 p.m. at the Founder’s Chapel of the Auburn United Methodist Church. Visitation immediately following the service.
