Colonel Robert Seabrook Lindsay (U.S. Army, Retired), 79, Flintwood Lane, died July 13, 2017 at home. He was a native of Summerville, S.C. and son of the late Hilray and Anne (Garrison) Lindsay.
Colonel Lindsay was an athlete and graduate of Clemson University, earning his degree in Civil Engineering in 1963. He received a Master of Engineering degree from the University of South Carolina and pursued a PhD in Engineering and taught Military Science at the University of Mississippi. He was a graduate of the U.S. Army Artillery and Missile Officer Candidate School; U.S. Army Engineer School career course and the Army Command and General Staff College. During his military career he served as aide-de-camp to the commanding general, Ft. Belvoir, VA; deputy district engineer for civil works; chief, Environmental Branch, Headquarters U.S. Army, Europe and 7th Army; deputy inspector general, along with serving two tours in the Vietnam War.
Colonel Lindsay retired from the Army after serving as commander of the Huntsville division of the U.S. Army Corps of Engineers and previous director of engineering and housing at Ft. McClellan, Alabama. He served in the private sector at Wyle Labs, Weston Corporation, and Ellis Group and founded Seabrook Consulting, Inc.
He was a member of Shiloh United Methodist Church in Carrollton, GA and contributed to many charitable organizations. He was an avid golfer and member of Saugahatchee Country Club.
Colonel Lindsay was preceded in death by his wife, Shirbie (Lovvorn) of Carrollton, GA. and his great-grandson, Sebastian Hutchens of Pelion, S.C.
He is survived by his brother, William Hilray Lindsay (Judy) of Charlotte, N.C.; his children Victoria Wood, Kathie Morales, Gennifer Costanzo, David Lindsay, Grant Grizzard, Al Grizzard (Janet) and Paige Sebring (David); 19 grandchildren and three great-grandchildren
Services will be held at Jeffcoat-Trant Funeral Home in Opelika, AL at 11:00am CST on Tuesday, July 18, 2017 with interment to follow at Shiloh United Methodist Church in Carrollton, GA at 4:00pm EST.
The Family will receive visitors Monday, July 17, 2017 between 6:00pm and 8:00pm CST at Jeffcoat-Trant Funeral Home.
