A Memorial Mass for Mrs. Gloria J. Myers (Egidi), 74, of Lake Martin, will be held at 11:00 am Saturday, December 9, 2017 at St. Michael’s Catholic Church with Father Bill Skoneki officiating.

G loria Jean Myers (Egidi), 74, died unexpectedly at 2:58 p.m. on December 2, 2017 following a prolonged hospitalization and complications from treatment for leukemia.  She was born on October 21, 1943 in Sewickley, Pennsylvania.  The oldest daughter of Robert D. and Anna (Nina) M. Egidi, and granddaughter of Laura and Giovanni Iocca (‘Nonna and Nono Downstairs’), Gloria became the family matriarch and carried on many revered Italian family traditions.  In particular, she would warm hearts and bellies everywhere by sending her homemade wine cookies to anyone, anywhere, at any time.

Gloria also healed and nurtured professionally as a registered nurse.  She attended nursing school at Providence Hospital in Pennsylvania and earned her Bachelors of Nursing degree from St. Francis University in Joliet, IL.  She worked in the trenches of various emergency rooms from 1964-1995 and worked the nightshift for many years as a young mother.  During the last 14 years of her career, she continued to comfort families as a Transplant Coordinator at Blue Cross Blue Shield of Alabama.  She was known for always going the extra mile and she developed close personal relationships with many of her transplant families.

Clarence “Butch” Myers Jr., a handsome blonde ski-boat captain from Beaver Falls, Pennsylvania, bucked Italian tradition by marrying Gloria on July 2, 1966.  During their 51 years together, they had two children (Matt and Lori) and moved numerous times before retiring together in 2009 on Lake Martin.  Butch and Gloria traveled the world together from Singapore to Greece, the Grand Canyon, Italy, Italy and Italy.  When not traveling, spending time with her grandsons (Andrew and Aidan), baking cookies, cleaning, painting doors, taking water aerobics classes or knitting hats, she gave her time and love to the community in which she lived and to Russell Medical as a member of the hospital auxiliary and the Emily Gilbert Dementia Support Group (certified facilitator).

Memories of Gloria’s beauty will continue to inspire her family and friends.  She is survived by husband, Clarence “Butch” Myers Jr., son Matthew (Jacquie) Myers, daughter Lori (Mike) McLamb, grandsons Andrew and Aidan McLamb, sisters Carla (Larry) Brock and Roberta (Dennis) Kmiec, many nieces, nephews, great-nieces and nephews, cousins and close friends.

In lieu of flowers, the family respectfully suggests that memorial donations be made to Russell Medical Foundation, P.O. Box 939, Alexander City, AL  35011).  russellcares.com/donate
