Leona Wood Barrow Windom

Mrs. Windom was born in Crenshaw County, Alabama. At age one, her father moved the family to Covington County to enable his children to receive a better education. She entered Straughn School in the first grade and graduated twelve years later form Straughn High School. Mrs. Windom had fond memories of growing up in the Straughn community, surrounded by family, friends, and church members. During her working years, she was a sales manager and supervisor of several retail establishments in South Alabama. She spent her retirement years serving others and visiting shut-ins. One of her greatest joys was to sing in the church choir from a young age until her late 80’s.

She is preceded in death by husbands Luell Wheeler Barrow and the Reverend Neal Windom; her parents: Charles Crawford Wood and Elizabeth Whatley Wood; and her siblings: Crawford Wood, Lois Wood Gardner, Mary Wood Holton, Stanford Wood and Gaston Wood. She is survived by her children: James (Pamela) Barrow of Atlanta, GA. and Carola Barrow (Clifford) Pike of Auburn; grandchildren: Elizabeth Kelly (James) Walker of Auburn, Kathryn Barrow of Winston-Salem, NC., and Thomas Barrow of Austin, TX.;

            A funeral service for Mrs. Windom will be held on Monday, January 15, 2018 at Jeffcoat-Trant Funeral Home. The service is to begin at 11:00 a.m. with a visitation one hour prior to the service at 10:00 a.m. In lieu of flowers, please send donations to Glenn Memorial Methodist Church, 1660 North Decatur Rd.
