Lucretia went home to be with her Lord and Savior and was reunited with her husband, on July 17, 2017.  She was born August 14, 1929, in Memphis, TN.  Following her graduation from Stephens College in Columbia, MO, she married the decorated WWII veteran, William Sanders, Jr. of LaGrange, GA, in 1950.  She met William in Memphis where he attended the Southern College of Optometry.  His career took him to Atlanta, GA, where they raised their four deeply cherished children.  Following his death, Lucretia moved with daughter Karen to Auburn, AL, where Lucretia was active in multiple ministries at Lakeview Baptist Church including Esther Sunday School class, the Senior Saints, the Benevolent Committee, the Food Pantry, and Mission Friends.  Additionally, she enjoyed her volunteer work with East Alabama Medical Center (EAMC) where she worked with the Auxiliary to assist and comfort patients and served on their board in various offices including President.  She is a previous Volunteer of the Year and in her free time, she loved shopping, sewing, and traveling.  She was extremely proud of her children and grandchildren in their pursuit of college educations and lives of Christian service.

Lucretia’s beloved children are Patricia (husband Mark) of Baltimore, MD, Bill (wife Karen) of Hebron, KY,  Julia (deceased) (husband Tom) of Stockbridge, Ga, and Karen (husband Buck) of Opelika, AL.  Her treasured seven grandchildren are Kayla, William, Christopher, Audrey, Kevin, Abby, and Jackson.  She is also survived by her sister, Carrie Ellis of Memphis, TN.  Lucretia is preceded in death by her beloved husband, Dr. William L. Sanders, Jr.; her daughter, Julia; her parents, William E. and Lois Barnes of Memphis; and in-laws, William L. and Edna Sanders, Sr., of Lagrange, GA.  Memorials may be made to Lakeview Baptist Church or the EAMC Auxiliary.
