Mary Virginia Whatley Cumbie

Mrs. Mary Virginia Whatley Cumbie passed away Monday, October 16, 2017 at her home in Opelika. 

Mrs. Cumbie was a native of Tallassee, AL and lived most of her life in Opelika.  She was an active member of the First United Methodist Church of Opelika and was a member of the choir and the Poe-Cumbie Sunday School class. 

She was preceded in death by her husband, William A (Bill) Cumbie, Jr. and daughter-in-law, Lanet Leigh Engle Cumbie.  Mrs. Cumbie is survived by her sons, Al Cumbie of Opelika, AL and Marty Cumbie of Columbia, MO; grandchildren, Ashlei Babauta and Aleisha Cumbie Baker of Opelika, AL, Clay Cumbie of Nashville, TN, and Courtney Jones (Tyler) of Columbia, MO; six great-grandchildren; sister, Martha W. Billings of Wetumpka, AL; and sister-in-law, Carolyn Cumbie of Verbena, AL. 

Her funeral service will be Monday, October 23, 2017, 11:00 a.m. at Jeffcoat-Trant Funeral Home with Reverend Robin Wilson officiating.  Visitation will be held from 10:00 – 11:00 a.m. preceding the service. Interment in Garden Hills Cemetery will follow the service.  The family respectfully declines the gift of flowers and suggest memorials may be directed to Opelika First United Methodist Church, 702 Avenue A, Opelika, AL 36801.
