Mr. David Ray Obituary

David Clyde Ray was born on April 5th, 1938 in Opelika.  He attended Cliff High School and entered the U.S. Air Force at the age of 16 in July, 1954 but was discharged a few months later when it was discovered he was too young.  This didn’t deter him though because just a year later, he volunteered and was accepted to the US Air Force at the age of 17 and spent the next four years as a fire fighter on a crash crew at Lackland, AFB until his discharge in 1959. He served on the Opelika Police Department and Lee County Sheriff’s office after serving in the Korean conflict.  He moved on to work with Telecable of Lee County and Davis-Dyar Electrical Company.  Soon afterwards, he established City Electric with two of his brothers, Winfield and Donald Ray.  After Winfield’s death in 1995, the name changed to D. Ray Electric Company with his Brother Donald. Clyde retired in 2008.

Clyde was preceded in death by his parents, James Cleveland Ray and Nellie Smith Ray and brother, James Winfield Ray.

Clyde is survived by his wife, Daisy S. Ray; son, Kenneth Clyde Ray (Carole); daughter, Dody Ray Cadenhead (Mark), Step-Daughter Billie Sue Scurnopoli; Brothers Wayne Ray and Donald C.
