On June 8, 2019, after a courageous battle with cancer, Harry Eugene Smallwood went to be with the Lord for eternity. He was 80 years old. Funeral Service will be held Thursday, June 13, 2019 at 1:00 p.m. at Jeffcoat-Trant Chapel, Opelika, Alabama.  Interment will immediately follow at Garden Hills Cemetery at 1218 Frederick Road, Opelika, Alabama.  The family will receive friends from 12:00 noon until 1:00 p.m. prior to the service at Jeffcoat-Trant Chapel.

Harry was born in Monroe, Georgia.  He lived in Macon and Jesup, Georgia, but was a long-time resident of Opelika.  He attended Pepperell Elementary, was a graduate of Opelika High School, maintaining many lifelong friendships.  He enjoyed attending Church of the Highlands in Auburn, Alabama.  Harry retired, after 35 years of service, from Sonat, Inc., formerly Southern Natural Gas Company.  Throughout his life he loved the outdoors.  He played softball, coached little league baseball, raised cattle, farmed, and enjoyed gardening.

He loved the Lord, his family, and enjoyed spending time with his children and grandchildren.  He was affectionately known as “Papa” and leaves us a legacy of faith and a lifetime of wonderful memories.
