Mr. Roy Schultz Obituary

Roy Arthur Schultz was born in St. Paul, MN on April 10, 1951. Roy passed away in his home in Auburn, Alabama on May 10, 2019 at the age of 68. He is the son of Roy Ernest Schultz and Leona Agnes Schultz. Roy started writing music in the cab of a semi-truck while working with his late father. At the age of 14 his family relocated to the California coast, where he began his music career. After honing his skills to a professional level, he began playing with many Country Legends such as Little Jimmy Dickens, Loretta Lynn, Junior Brown and Freddie Fender. He lived in Honolulu, Hawaii and performed around the world with his band, The Electric Rangers. Roy married Julia Gudmundson, the lead singer of the band and they had a son, Jonas Schultz. After his first wife’s passing, Roy and Jonas moved to Texas. He performed in a few bands there and raised his son as a single father. In the Lonestar state he met and married Mary Rudisill of North Carolina. After a short stint in Texas, Roy, Mary and Jonas moved to the loveliest village on the plains, Auburn, Alabama. After relocating to Alabama, Roy began releasing albums under his own name, Uncle Roy. He played guitar, drums and sang on these albums. For the past 20 years he has been a staple of the Auburn music scene. Roy was a song writer and musician his entire adult life. His drumming was unparalleled, and he could play a country shuffle like no one else. His life has been an inspiration to countless young musicians, and he made a major impact on country music along the way. He was a dedicated father and husband. He is survived by his son, Jonas Schultz; his wife, Mary Rudisill; his sisters, Judy Schultz Jackson, Betty Schultz Osborn, and Laurie Schultz; as well as many family and friends. There is no service planned at this time, but there will be a musical celebration of his life TBA in August.
