Walter Cullars, III, passed away unexpectedly at the age of 88 at his home in Lookout Mountain, TN. He was born September 22, 1931, in Roanoke, AL to Walter Cullars, Jr. and Antonia Torbert Cullars.
He was a graduate of Auburn University, member of ATO Fraternity, and an ardent Auburn sports fan. Walter served his country as an officer, pilot, and photo-analyst in the US Air Force during the 1950’s. He spent his long post-service career as an accomplished designer, research development specialist, and executive in the textile industry in the US and internationally.
Walter is survived by his loving wife: Vanessa Huphrey Cullars; son: Justin Cullars (Cam) of Knoxville, TN; sister: Dorothy Cullars Waugh of Canton, GA; cousins: Dr. Joanne Smith T, Winston Smith T, Jr., Alma Smith T, Edith Smith T Walker, Walter Cullars Dorsey, Walter “Doc” Dorsey, Jr., Lou Dorsey Hamlet, all of Opelika and many nieces, nephews, cousins and loving friends.
A graveside service will be conducted 2:00pm, Friday, June 28th, at Rosemere Cemetery, Opelika, AL, with Reverend Earl Ballard officiating.
