Mrs. Susan Smith Hopson was born July 25, 1940 in Sewanee, TN. She grew up in Bridgeport, AL in Jackson County. Growing up, Susan loved water skiing and going to the farm with her father, James Earl Smith. She graduated from Auburn University with a major in Home Economics, she had a passion for cooking great food and a lot of people can testify that over the years, Susan had touched a lot of lives that were in need of a helping hand and encouragement. Susan and Dr. Clifton Hopson were married in 2002 and they say that it was a union made in Heaven, everything that they did complimented each other, Susan and Clifton’s hobbies included growing a garden, flowers, art, Barbie doll collection, hot wheels collection, precious and semi-precious stone cutting and lapping and jewelry making. Susan’s talent for baking every day and her joy from giving it away was a blessing to a lot of people. Susan was a member of many clubs for several years: Auburn Woman Club, 20th Century Study Club, Home Economics Alumni Club of Auburn, Garden Lovers Club, D.A.R. Delta Zeta Alumni of Auburn and the Opelika Bridge Club. Susan was also a member of Pepperell Baptist Church.
Susan said that Jesus had always been the center of her life and if you have not given your heart to Jesus, this is a call for you to do so now. She felt that if she had helped someone along the way, her life had not been in vain.
