Wayne Sellers Obituary

(Guy)  Wayne Sellers of Auburn, Alabama, formerly of Montgomery, Alabama, went to be with his Heavenly Father on Friday, June 29, 2018 after a brief illness with cancer.  Wayne was born July 21, 1943 in Montgomery, Alabama.  A Celebration of Life Memorial Service will be held on Sunday, July 8 at 2:00 P.M. at Auburn United Methodist Church Sanctuary, 137 South Gay Street.   Visitation and a reception will follow

after the Service.

Wayne LOVED his family. He was a devoted husband, father and grandfather. His memories will be cherished by his wife of 53 years,

Gayla Hinton Sellers, his daughter, Stephanie Sellers Philpott (William) of Birmingham, Alabama and son Gregory Wayne Sellers of Auburn, Alabama.  He adored his grandchildren, Trey, Sellers and Emiline Philpott.   Wayne was the son of Mary Elizabeth “Polly” Sellers of Wetumpka, formally of Montgomery, and the late Guy Wilson Sellers.  He is also survived by his sister, Glenda Esco (Wayne) of Wetumpka and the late Ginger McKinnon (Frank) of Montgomery, brother-in-law, Tom Hinton (Patti) of Titus, Alabama, sisters-in-law, the late Jean Hinton Ward and the late Mary ”Beth” Hinton Hubert, and numerous nieces and nephews.  He also loved his grand dogs Sally Girl, Dixie and Raven.

Wayne was a devout Christian and an active member of Auburn United Methodist Church where he served on the Administrative Board.  He especially loved his Sunday School class, the McGehee Lacy Bible Class, where he was Social Chairman.  In Montgomery, he was a member of Eastern Hills Baptist Church serving as a deacon and was a member of the McGraw Sunday School class.  He generously supported his churches and their missions.  Wayne was active in his communities serving on various boards and committees.

Wayne graduated from Robert E. Lee High School and earned a B.S. degree in Business from Troy State College.   He achieved the Certified Real Estate Appraiser designation from the American Appraisal Institute.   Initially employed by the Alabama Highway Department, Wayne was instrumental in the appraisal of the Interstate 65 corridor project from Mobile to Birmingham and beyond.  He was an independent real estate appraiser for forty-two years.  Part of that time, he established and set up the Appraisal Division at Regions Mortgage.  Wayne taught Real Estate Appraisal classes at Auburn University Montgomery and Troy State Montgomery.  After retirement he moved to Auburn where he enjoyed working with his son, Greg, at his business, Auburn Reprographics and Supply.

Wayne enjoyed many sports and he was an avid fan of Alabama Football.  He played baseball and football.  He was a good golfer and softball player. He volunteered his time to coach Pee Wee Football (One of his teams won a City Championship.) and Dixie Youth Little League. (He was elected to coach numerous All-Star baseball teams.)  He also played and coached in the Montgomery Church League. He always supported and was a part of his family’s and children’s sports and extracurricular activities with his time, knowledge of the game, coaching, contributions and financial support.

In lieu of flowers the family requests donations in Wayne’s memory to the Memorial Fund at Auburn United Methodist Church, 137 South Gay Street, Auburn, AL 36830.
