Angela "Angie" Lord Dollar Obituary

Angie Dollar, 71, of Auburn, passed away peacefully on Sunday at Bethany House. Angie was born and raised in Andalusia, Alabama, the second of three children. A 1964 graduate of Andalusia High School, Angie was a majorette and played the flute. She was honored to be named first alternate in the Miss Andalusia pageant, as well as being crowned Miss Maid of Cotton and Peanut Festival Queen.

Angie attended the University of Montevallo for two years before transferring to the University of Mississippi. She was a member of Phi Mu and studied Home Economics at Ole Miss, completing a Bachelor of Science in 1968. Angie began her career as a Home Agent for the Alabama Cooperative Extension Service in Ozark where she met her husband Mason, a soldier then stationed at Fort Rucker. After marrying and taking time off to raise their family, Angie taught children and disadvantaged adults before finding her true calling as a child advocate. For many years, Angie worked for the Auburn City Schools' Child Resource Center, helping establish a dental program for under-resourced children, performing residency, welfare and hygiene checks, and going to court with and for many at-risk children.

Angie was an active member of the Babe McGhee/Fred Lacey Sunday School class at Auburn United Methodist Church for many years. In retirement, she served as a volunteer with the church's outreach to those with Alzheimer's and Dementia. Angie was a founding member of an inter-denominational Friday morning Ladies' Bible Study that evolved from the Cloverleaf neighborhood sewing circle in the late 1970s and continues today. She was a member of the Woman's Club of Auburn for 45 years, most recently serving as Treasurer and Secretary. Above all, Angie was a devoted wife, mother and grandmother.

Angie is survived by her three children, Dawnn Dollar (Toby Canipe) of Estero, Florida, Kristie Cambridge of Auburn, and Dusty (Michelle) Dollar of Monticello, Florida; six grandchildren, Katlin-Madison Cambridge, Kacie Cambridge, Jackson Cambridge, Anna Kate Dollar, Allie Dollar and Adalyn Dollar; one sister Sandra Proctor (Joe) of Andalusia, and one brother, David Lord (Tricia) of Boise, Idaho. She was preceded in death by her devoted husband of 46 years, Mason Dollar, and by her loving parents, Henry Tobe Lord and Leila Florene Bryant Lord.

A memorial service honoring Angie's life will be held at 1:30 PM on Friday, July 6 at Auburn United Methodist Church with Rev. Cory Smith officiating.
