Cynthia Welch Abney

Cynthia Welch Abney, also know as Cindy, passed away peacefully at her home in LaFayette, Alabama on October 17, 2023. She was born on May 7, 1957 in LaFayette, Alabama. Cindy was a selfless mother, a great Big Mama to her grand children, a caring family member, and even better friend, bringing a smile and a joke to any conversation.  She loved with all her heart and gave everything she had to make sure her family was taken care of. 

Cindy is preceded in death by her father, Herman "Happy Jack" Welch, her mother, Teressa S. Welch Teel, her sister, Cheryl (Spencer) McWhorter, her brother, Alec Welch, and her cousin, Wanda Worthy Jazwinksky. 

Cindy is survived by her daughter, Nicole (Jamie) Brooks, her grandchildren, Jacob, Austin, and Hannah Brooks, her sister, Gwen (David) Adams, her brothers John and Joel Welch, her nephews, Clanton McWhorter, Stacey Welch, and Dave Adams, too many cousins to name, and her pups, Monkey and Bubba. 

Cindy worked as a manager for the Alabama Beverage Control Board in Valley Alabama until retirement. She loved her family and worked as a caregiver for the family for many years. She found joy in watching her grandchildren grow and was able to be with her grandchildren when they were young. 

Cindy also enjoyed traveling on Girl's trips with Leah Woody, Donna Porter, Donna Perez, Emily Cox, Debby Mitcham, Diana Welch, and Tammy White. 

A small gathering will be held at Rock Springs Baptist Church. An announcement will be posted on Facebook.
