Dawnette Godwin Obituary

Dawnette Racquel Godwin of Rod and Jerolyn Sanders died at the age of 54 years young in her Opelika home after a long courageous battle with breast cancer.

Dawnette was born on August 21st, 1967, in Orange County, California. She moved to Selma, Alabama in junior high. The single greatest day of her life was on August 25th, 1993, when her son, Collin was born. Mother and son spent time living in Selma, Huntsville, and Auburn, Alabama. Dawnette raised her son an Auburn fan (War Eagle!) despite the rest of the family rooting for the Crimson Tide; she forever marched to her own drum. Dawnette lived every single day of her life for her son all the way until the very end. Dawnette was survived by son, Collin Nichols (wife Carmen), brother, Jay Mott (Gabby, Ryder, Nick), niece, Kinsley Mott, step-mother, Cindy White, cousin, David Bradley, as well as a multitude of loving friends including, Mickie and Steve Lane (Amber, Taylor & Shayna, Rhett) Kim & West Harris, Lindsay Wallace, Melody & Jim Nelson, Emily Hulsey, Mac & Roxie Bright, Josh Bright (wife Lauren, daughter Jaine), Jonathan Bright (wife Karly, daughter Mac), Curtis Nichols (Suzie, Jerrett, & Samantha Hill), S&S work family, her sweet Frenchie, Frankie and many many more.

Dawnette brought joy, laughter, and love to every person who encountered her, and she will be missed immensely. Services for Dawnette will be held January 15th at Jeffcoat-Trant Funeral Home in Opelika. Visitation will be at 1:00pm and a celebration of life at 2:00pm. The service will be live streamed for loved ones who cannot attend. In Lieu of flowers, the family asks that donations be made to the Breast Cancer Research Foundation to help find a cure so that friends and family like this will no longer have to suffer such great loss.

Friends and family have shared their relationship to show their support.
