Doris Murphree Foster, went home to be with her Lord and Savior Jesus Christ on April 22, 2023. Doris was born in Oneonta, Alabama on February 21, 1946, to Elmer and Autery Murphree. She graduated from Appalachian High School in 1964 where she earned many honors and awards. Doris and Butch were married in 1966 and moved to Auburn. After moving to Auburn, she began working on the Auburn University campus in the Department of Agricultural Economics. She attended Auburn University and worked in many offices on the Auburn campus, while at the same time, caring and providing support for her family. During this time, she was active in Campus organizations such as Dames Club and Campus Club. She served as a volunteer in the Auburn City School System for many years. She was a Life Member of the Auburn Alumni Association, a member of the Auburn Woman’s Club and the Gideon’s Auxiliary. Her first love was always serving her Lord and Savior Jesus Christ. She joined Auburn Methodist Church in 1968 and worked in many capacities, including teaching children’s Sunday School classes, Mother’s Day Out, as a member of the Administrative Board and as a director of Vacation Bible School. She also supported her children in their many activities including music, ballet, softball and for almost 15 years as a tennis mom.
She is survived by her daughters Kim Parker (Charles), Elizabeth Moore (Jason), her husband of 56 years, Butch Foster, grandchildren Chase and Caden Parker, her sister Marcelle Whited (Gene), her brother Norris Murphree along with many nieces and nephews. Other than her parents, she was predeceased by her sisters Conette Earnest, Helen Hartley and brother Douglas Murphree.
Visitation will be held Friday, April 28, 2023 from noon until 2:00 PM followed by her Celebration of Life Service at Auburn United Methodist Church, Rev. George Mathison officiating. Pallbearers will be Charles Parker, Chase Parker, Caden Parker, Henry Ernest, Rockie Mason and Sam Sternberg. A graveside service will follow at Town Creek Cemetery in Auburn, Alabama.
