Dorothy “Quincyˮ Butler Cordell, 72, of Auburn, Alabama, passed away at East Alabama Medical Center on Friday, February 14. The funeral service will be held at 11:00 AM on Thursday, February 20, 2025 at St. Michaelʼs Catholic Church in Auburn, with a visitation one hour prior to the service. Burial will be held afterward at Memorial Park in Auburn. Arrangements have been entrusted to Jeffcoat Trant Funeral Home, Auburn.
Dorothy was born in Quincy, Florida on March, 24, 1952, to Louis and Hanzel (Edwards) Butler. She grew up and attended school in Quincy and graduated from James A. Shanks High School in 1970. She went on to obtain her Bachelorʼs in Accounting from Auburn University in 1974.
On April 6, 1974, Dorothy was united in marriage to William “Billˮ Cordell II in Quincy. They made their home in multiple places over the years including Pintlala, AL, Dothan, AL, Albany, GA and finally settling in Auburn. Dorothy worked as an accountant for Auburn University in its Contracts and Grants Department.
Always aspiring to be an interior designer, she served as Chapter Advisor and Board Member for her beloved, Gamma Phi Beta sorority. A point of pride for her was overseeing their new chapter dorm rooms at Auburn University. Dorothy loved her family, enjoyed playing hostess at holiday gatherings, serving as an avid Tom Selleck fan, traveling to the Blue Ridge Mountains, being an HGTV oficiando, and watching her Auburn Tigers football, having season tickets for most of her adult life. Dorothy is survived by her two sons and one daughter, William (Kate) Cordell III of Oakton, Virginia, Daniel (Mary Eileen) Cordell and Elizabeth Cordell, both of Auburn; grandchildren, William and Quinn Cordell of Oakton, VA, Maggie and Daniel Cordell of Auburn; her sisters-in-law, Kathy (Steve) Thornton of Charlottesville, VA, Judy (Eddy) Paul of Alabaster, AL, and Jan Cordell of Montgomery; her brothers-in law, Robert (Karen) Cordell of Pintlala, AL, John
(Ann) Cordell of Montgomery; and several nieces and a nephew.
She is proceeded in death by her husband, William; her parents, Louis and Hanzel Butler.
The family is accepting flowers but encourages you to make a donation in Dorothyʼs name to the Parkinsonʼs Foundation.
