Dr. John Franklyn Pritchett of Auburn, Alabama, went to be with his Father in Heaven on Friday, July 6, 2018. John was born June 30, 1942, in Evanston, Illinois. A Memorial Service and Burial will be held on Tuesday, July 10 at 11:00 A.M. at Auburn United Methodist Church Sanctuary, 137 South Gay Street. Visitation will be prior to the Service from 10:00 to 11:00 A.M. The Service and Burial will be officiated by Dr. George Mathison.
John PASSIONATELY LOVED his family and friends. He was a devoted husband, father, grandfather and friend to ALL, he will be remembered as OUR ANGEL. He is preceded in death by his parents, Mr. and Mrs. Horace Pritchett of Dothan, AL, and his wife, Jane Howell Pritchett of Auburn, AL. He is survived by his wife, Gingerlee Payne Pritchett of Auburn, AL; brother, Charles Pritchett (Lil-wife, Michelle, Stacey, and Chuck) of Hoover, AL; son, David Pritchett (Mary-wife, David, Olivia, Jane, and Lauren) of Richmond, TX; daughter, Lindsey Sabens (Charlie-husband, Madeline, and Natahley) of LaGrange, GA; son, Derek Johnson (Leigh-wife, Julie Anne, Seth, Douglas, Sarah Kathryn, Spencer Payne, Mary Elizabeth, Mac, and Katie Mae) of Wetumpka, AL; son, Keith Johnson (Missy-wife, Reese, and Hicks) of Vestavia Hills, AL. Dr. Pritchett was also blessed with additional extended family members and close personal friends.
Dr. Pritchett’s desire for learning was inspirational. Some of his many accomplishments and memberships include: Interim President at Florida Atlantic University; University Provost, Chief Academic Officer and Professor of Biomedical Sciences at Florida Atlantic University; Acting/Interim Provost and Vice President for Academic Affairs at Auburn University; Dean of the Graduate School at Auburn University; Professor and Department Head of Zoology and Wildlife Sciences at Auburn University; Member on Advisory Board for the College of Science and Mathematics; Member and past President of the Alabama Academy of Sciences; Member of the American Association for the Advancement of Science; Member of the American Men and Women of Science; Member of the Alabama Council of Graduate Deans; Member of Alpha Gamma Rho Fraternity and The Honor Society of Phi Kappa Phi.
In lieu of flowers, the family requests donations in John’s memory be made to the American Cancer Society or the East Alabama Food Bank.
