James Douglas Royster, age 82, passed away on January 12, 2025 surrounded by family.
James was born December 6, 1942 in LaFayette, AL to Thomas Hosey and Bama Lee. He is survived by Sandra, his loving wife of 64 years. He is also survived by his daughter, Terri Miller (David) , and son, Brent Royster (Delaine), his grandchildren Samuel Miller, Daniel Miller (Tori), Ben Royster, Caitlin Royster, Mary Dean (Jeremy), and Ashley Royster, and three great-grandchildren, Lincoln, Esley, and Stella Miller. In addition, he is survived by several in-laws, numerous nieces and nephews, a host of other beloved family members, and many close friends.
James proudly served in the United States Air Force. He retired from AT&T after 27 years. A skilled carpenter, he built many pieces of beautiful furniture and crafts. He loved plants, flowers, and gardening. He faithfully served as a Deacon at Rock Springs Baptist Church for many years.
James was known for his integrity, faith, and quick-wit. He was multi-talented and always ready to help in any situation. Above all, he loved Jesus and followed him faithfully. A devoted husband, father, Papa, and Peepaw, he will be dearly missed.
A Celebration of Life will be held Saturday, January 18th, 2025 at 2pm central time, with a visitation starting at 1pm, at Rock Springs Baptist Church in LaFayette, AL. Flowers may be sent to the funeral home, or donations may be made in James' honor to Rock Springs Baptist Church Building fund.
