Joanne Hood, age 75, loving mother of 3 and adoring wife to husband John Hood, passed away peacefully in the early hours of January 19th after a courageous battle with colon cancer. Joanne was born in 1946 in Birmingham and grew up to attend Auburn University where she majored in early childhood education, was a sorority sister of Delta Zeta and where she and John met and fell in love. After graduation they married and she began a loving, devoted career in early childhood education. With a deep love for family, they decided to grow their own. As a mother to Austin, Lauren and Katy, she was generous, loving, supportive and kind. She continued to teach in the classroom for almost 40 years, before retiring in 2016. She became a grandmother in 2009 and will fondly be remembered as Gigi to Aaron (14), Owen (7), Harper (4) and Henry (1). In 2014, Joanne and John returned to Auburn to enjoy retirement in the place that brought them together. In their free time, they enjoyed travelling all over the world, spending time with their friends, family and Holy Trinity church family, and anything involved with Auburn University!
Joanne is survived by her husband, John; her son Austin (Sarah); her daughters Lauren and Katy (Marc); and her 4 grandchildren Aaron, Owen, Harper and Henry.
There will be a memorial service for those who would like to attend 1 pm, Saturday January 22nd at Holy Trinity Episcopal Church, 100 Church Drive in Auburn.
We think about you always, we talk about you still. You have never been forgotten, and you never will. We hold you close within our hearts, and there you will remain, to walk and guide us through our lives until we meet again.
