Larry McGhee Obituary

Larry Nyle McGhee passed away at his home after a brief battle with brain cancer on Tuesday, January 5, 2021 at the age of 75.

Mr. McGhee is predeceased by his parents, Raymond and Myrtle McGhee; brother, Dixon James McGhee; and sister, Grace McGhee England.

Larry is survived by his wife of 53 years, Sara Annette Eddins McGhee. They were married in Troy, AL on November 19, 1967. He is also survived by his daughter, Shannon McGhee Lowery (Allan) and his son Benjamin Nyle McGhee both of Auburn. He treasured his two granddaughters, Sara Noel Lowery and Megan Patricia Lowery.

Mr. McGhee was born in Troy, AL on March 23, 1945. He grew up on a farm in Ariton, AL where his love for tractors began. Larry is a 1963 graduate of Carroll High School in Ozark, AL and went on to graduate from Troy State University in 1968. He served his country in the Alabama National Guard for six years.

Larry began his career as a sales representative for Texaco Oil Company for ten years in Florida and North Carolina. He and Annette moved to Auburn in 1978 where he began his State Farm Insurance Agency of 36 years. After retiring in 2014, he continued to be a 'good neighbor' to his many friends and family.

Larry’s passions included restoring old farm tractors, working outdoors, and spending time with his family. He was a member of Auburn United Methodist Church (AUMC) for 42 years where he served in numerous leadership roles.

Memorial gifts may be made to AUMC REACH Community Respite Ministry where Larry served as a greeter (AUMC P.O. Box 3135 Auburn, AL 36831).

An outdoor visitation will be held at 2060 Windway Road in Auburn at Larry's barn on Saturday, January 9, 2021 between 10:30am-12:00pm to commemorate a life well lived.
