Michael Lenhart Obituary

Michael Myers Lenhart was born in Raton, New Mexico on October 6, 1948, and passed away in Auburn, Alabama on September 12, 2022. He was preceded in death by his parents John and Doris Lenhart and his father and mother-in-law Robert and Jean Walters all of Pueblo, Colorado. Mike is survived by the love of his life for over 50 years, Linda Lenhart. Also surviving are his daughters Amy (Rusty) Russell, and Kim (Todd) Evans, 4 grandchildren, Chad Landers, Lauren Landers, Kendall Evans and Noah Evans, siblings, John (Flora) Lenhart, Keith (Debbie) Lenhart and Linda Schierling (Doug Tomczak) and his K-9 best friend, Chloe. He is also survived by several nieces and nephews.

Mike moved to Pueblo, Colorado during his high school years, where he met Linda. Following his graduation from the University of Southern Colorado in 1971, Mike was commissioned as a 2nd Lieutenant into the United States Army. Mike completed Airborne and Ranger Training, and was awarded the Legion of Merit, the Joint Service Commendation Medal, the Meritorious Service Medal with two Bronze Oak Leaf clusters, the Army Commendation Medal, the Air Force Commendation Medal, the Army Achievement Medal with Silver Oak Leaf cluster, and the National Defense Service Medal with Bronze Star.

Mike retired as a Lieutenant Colonel in 1994 in Montgomery, Alabama where he would continue his education at Auburn University at Montgomery earning both his Master’s in Education and his Masters in Education Administration, and was awarded an Honorary Doctorate as one of AUM’s top 50 alumni.  His career in education would eventually lead him to Ozark, Alabama where he was the Superintendent of Ozark City Schools. Mike retired for a second time after 18 years in education. He and Linda recently moved to Auburn, Alabama to be closer to family, where he spent his time cheering on the Auburn Tigers, flying his remote-controlled airplanes, and building in his workshop.

In Lieu of flowers the family is requesting donations be made to the American Diabetes Association or the Disabled American Veterans (dav.org) charity.

A Memorial service will be held on Monday, September 19, 2022, at 11:00 am at Jeffcoat-Trant Funeral Home and Crematory in Opelika, AL to celebrate the life of Michael Myers Lenhart.
