Ms. Neueva Cowart Obituary

On June 4, 2019, following a prolonged illness, a beautiful, gentle soul passed peacefully into the arms of Jesus and now stands in the holy presence of her Lord.  Neueva Cowart, of Opelika, Alabama, age 75, was born January 1, 1944, in Port St. Joe, Florida, and has resided in Opelika following retirement since 2006.  She is survived by her daughter, Lianna Eve Alligood; granddaughter Mattie Grace Alligood; great-granddaughter Cadence Alligood; 3 siblings, Ronald Franklin Cowart and Carla C. Rhodey of Opelika, Alabama, and Angela C. Harper of Panama City, Florida; and her very beloved cousins, Mary Josephine Adams, Kennese Ann Adkins, Betty Marie Roberts, Karen Sue Moberly, Dixie Cowart, and Ernie Cowart.

Neueva graduated from A.L. Miller High School in Macon, Georgia in 1961, top of her class and a member of T.O.P. Sorority, the Music Club, and Future Nurses of America.  Her beauty and poise earned her the crown as “Miss Central Georgia EMC”.  She went on to graduate from Greenleaf Business College in Atlanta, Georgia, and later in her mid-forties, fulfilled a life-long dream acquiring her nursing degree from Southern Union State, Opelika AL.

Neueva would go on to excel at everything she endeavored.  She was an integral part of the Legal Community in Panama City, Florida.  She achieved a brilliant, stellar legal career, and raised her daughter, Evie there.  The most successful legal professionals in Panama City would remember her long after she left Florida as one of the sharpest, most professional and well-presented Legal Assistants.  Neueva was strong and confident enough to make a complete change in her life the early ‘80s by relocating to Nashville, Tennessee.  And there, once again, she took the Legal Community and Nashville by storm, with her beauty, her brains, and her sharp wit.

Neueva was amazingly diverse in her abilities.  Having spent most of her adult life in the Legal Profession, she would later in life switch gears and graduate from Nursing School.  Again, she excelled at this profession, which was easy for Neueva because she cared so very much for her fellow human being.

Following retirement in 2006, Neueva made Opelika her home, and Opelika was better off for it.  She touched the lives of so many with her kind and gentle spirit. A devoted follower of Jesus Christ, Ms. Cowart lived by His word, and from there is where she sustained her strength. She was a prayer warrior and an encourager who always had a shoulder for a loved one to cry on and an encouraging word. She was there.  Neueva cared for her mother, Doris B. Sims, until her passing in October 2014.

Friends and loved ones remember Ms. Cowart with the utmost love, respect, and adoration.

Ms. Cowart was a member of Living Waters Ministries, Opelika AL.  A memorial service will be held at Jeffcoat Trant Funeral Home, 1500 Frederick Rd. Opelika, AL, June 15, 2019, 2P.M. A Celebration of Life will follow in the clubhouse of Ashton Way Apartments at 201 Samford Avenue, Opelika AL  36801.
