Rebecca "Becky" Powell

Mrs. Rebecca Powell, 83, passed away peacefully in the comfort of her home on Wednesday, February 26, 2025, in Opelika, Alabama. Rebecca was a long-time resident of Opelika, serving her community as the house supervisor at EAMC for many years – from which she retired after 35 years of dedicated service. Rebecca, a much-loved wife, mother, grandmother, and trusted nurse was born to parents Viola Newman and Edwin Hancock on December 13, 1941, in Tallapoosa County, Alabama.

Rebecca was preceded in death by her husband, Dr. F.M. Powell; her mother, Viola Thornton; and her father, Edwin Hancock.

She is survived by her sons: James A Elkins, Jr. (Nan) and Matthew Elkins; and her grandchildren: Holly Elkins and Natalie Elkins.

A celebration of life will be held for Rebecca on Friday, February 28, 2025, beginning at 11:00 AM CST in the Chapel at Jeffcoat-Trant Funeral Home. Family and friends will be received in the lobby of the funeral home after the service. Rebecca will be laid to rest in Garden Hill Cemetery during a private ceremony.
