Richard Robert (Rick) Rissman, 70, of Opelika, AL, passed away on Monday, May 6, 2024, at East Alabama Medical Center after a 47-year battle with Multiple Sclerosis. He was born in Griffin, GA, on December 22, 1953, to the late William Robert (Bob) and Jane Rissman. On September 11, 1976, he married Sherri Nabors of Mableton, GA. They were married for 47 years at the time of his passing. Rick loved the Lord with all of his heart and studied his scriptures daily. He was a member of Tenth Street Church of Christ in Opelika after many years worshipping at West Metro Church of Christ in Hiram, GA.
Rick graduated from Pebblebrook High School and Auburn University, then obtained his MBA from Georgia State University. He worked as a CPA and Controller until the MS made him retire. He loved Auburn University with all of his heart and followed every sporting event possible. Auburn is the reason he and Sherri moved to Opelika four years ago and were so happy living here. He was also a die-hard Atlanta Braves fan. He often told the story that his Mom got their family tickets to the very first Braves game when the team moved to Atlanta. That was just the start of many, many games.
A Celebration of Life will be held at their community clubhouse on Friday, May 10, 2024 from 11 am —1 pm.
He is survived by his wife Sherri, his sister Gail Allen of Carrollton, GA, and his brother Bill Rissman (Trish) of McKinney, TX, along with several nieces and nephews.
In lieu of flowers the family kindly requests that you consider a donation to Tenth Street Church of Christ, P O Box 917, Opelika, AL 36803, where it will be used to further the Lord's work.
Rick and Sherri would like to especially thank all of the medical professionals, especially the nurses and caregivers, and firefighters/EMTs that helped him and cared for him during his treatment for MS.
