Robert "Bob" Joseph Renie

Robert Joseph Renie, age 93, died peacefully at his home in Opelika, Alabama on Saturday, November 18 with his loving wife Barbara by his side. 

Robert was born in Centralia, Missouri on April 9, 1930 to Lura Norene Everman, and Joesph Patrick Renie. He graduated from high school in Centralia in 1948 and attended the University of Missouri for two years. After serving in the Air Force he moved back to Centralia where he met and married his first wife Ella Joan Hall in June, 1956. They were married for 55 years. They moved to Chicago, Milwaukee, Grand Rapids and Livonia, MI with The Continental Insurance Co. 

After retirement they moved to Opelika, AL in 1999 and Bob worked as a starter at the Robert Trent Jones golf course. He became very involved in the Kiwanis of Auburn and held several offices including the Lieutenant Governor Award in 2007. He received the George F. Hixon Memorial Fellowship Award in October 2013, the highest award in the Kiwanis organization. He was very involved with the Museum of East Alabama and served on the board as Vice President. A member of Trinity Church, he belonged to the Trinity Troopers and Thomas Samford Sunday school class. After the death of his wife Joan, he married Barbara Golden Renie in November, 2013. They were marred for 10 years. 

He was preceded in death by his parents and his sister Lura Ann Renie Decker. Bob is survived by his wife of 10 years, Barbara Golden Renie, daughter, Tamara Renie Grizzle (Glen) of Brooks, GA, daughter, Robin Lea Sommerville (Scott) of Redford, MI, grandsons, Ben Grizzle & Jon Grizzle. Step daughters, Tonya Lazzari (Chris), Kim Jordan (Kevin), seven grandchildren, two great grandchildren, and numerous nieces and nephews. 

A memorial service will be held on Friday, November 24th at Trinity Church in Opelika, AL. Visitation will be at 10am in the fellowship hall with the funeral to follow at 11 in the sanctuary. In lieu of flowers, donations can be made to Trinity Church general fund.
