Roy Lambert Obituary

Reid Lambert, 85, of Enterprise, AL, died on January 26, 2023 surrounded by his loving family. Reid was born in Thaxton, Mississippi on March 5, 1937 to Catheryn and Whit Lambert. He grew up in Mobile, Alabama and graduated from Murphy High School. Reid went on to graduate from Livingston University (now the University of West Alabama) where he played college baseball and majored in mathematics. It was at Livingston where he met Carolyn Payne who became his wife of 64 years.

 

Reid and Carolyn began married life in Carolyn’s hometown of Greensboro, Alabama where Reid became a beloved math teacher and assistant principal at Greensboro High School. He later got his Master’s in School Administration from the University of Alabama. In 1967, Reid, Carolyn, and their young family moved to Birmingham, where Reid worked for Standard School Supply. In 1976, Reid and family moved to Enterprise, Alabama, where he served as the Evening Director at Enterprise State Community College until his retirement.

 

Reid was well known for his quick-witted humor, love of puns, and generous spirit. He had many creative pursuits such as photography, writing, and woodworking. Reid enjoyed designing and building furniture, bicycles, and slingshots. Members of First United Methodist Church and the community will recall his deep, rich voice, which he used to narrate many church and community programs. He will also be remembered for his decades as an usher at First United Methodist Church’s eight o’clock service.

 

Reid is preceded in death by his parents, Whit and Catheryn Lambert, and his brothers, JW and Allen Lambert. He is survived by his wife, Carolyn; daughters, Melanie (Peter) Vangsnes of Waterford, VA, Kendra (Jeff) Poleshek of Homewood, AL, Susan (Dan) Norton of Auburn, AL; son, William (Lauri) Lambert of Hoover, AL; grandchildren, Alexandra Vangsnes (Alexis Cordier) of Draveil, France, Caroline Vangsnes of Boston, MA, Marin and Carson Poleshek of Homewood, AL, Payne Norton of Chattanooga, TN, Camille Norton of Auburn, AL, Penelope and Charles Lambert of Hoover, AL; great-granddaughter, Sunniva Cordier-Vangsnes of Draveil, France; sister, Catherine Buttram of Peachtree City, GA; many nieces and nephews, and some very good friends.

A private graveside service will be held at Oakwood Cemetery in Greensboro, AL. The family respectively declines the gift of flowers.

Donations may be made to the First United Methodist Church in Enterprise, AL or to the Alzheimer’s Association.
