Richard Scott, 79, passed away peacefully on July 23, 2022, in his home, in Beauregard (Opelika), AL. He was born in McKenzie, AL to S.L. and Hazel Scott. He was one of nine children. After graduating high school in 1962 Richard enlisted in the United States Air Force. After receiving an honorable discharge in 1965 he studied at Troy State University. In 1967 he was recruited by South Central Bell in Auburn, AL. He later retired in 1994 from Bell South in Atlanta, GA. After retiring, Scotty, a nickname he received in the military, moved to Opelika, AL. (Beauregard) where he had a small farm with animals and a large garden. He was very meticulous about landscaping his yard and perfecting his garden. Scotty enjoyed spending time with his grandchildren, reading and traveling with his wife, Rebecca, attending church and spending time with his small group. He was a member of Church of the Highlands in Auburn, AL. where he had many friends.
Richard is survived by his wife of 46 years, Rebecca (Long) Scott of Opelika, AL; daughters, Brandy (Boone) Kinard of Pike Road, AL and Erin (Kevin) Knight of Opelika, AL.; grandchildren Dayton, Kallie and Mason; great grandson, Titus; 3 sisters and 4 brothers. He was preceded in death by his parents, S.L. and Hazel Scott, his sister Ann (Scott) Kidd and grandson, Jeffery Bryan (Beau) Beck Jr.
A Celebration of Life will be held on Saturday, August 13, 2022 at Jeffcoat-Trant Funeral Home in Opelika, AL. Visitation is at 10am and a memorial service following at 11am.
The family asks that in lieu of flowers donations be made to Ronald McDonald House or live plants for the family to plant in his memory.
