Sam Robert Huling

Funeral service for Sam Robert Huling Jr (Bobby) will be held on Friday August 16 11:00 AM CDT at Jeffcoat Trant Funeral Home in Opelika. The Reverend Tim Thompson is officiating.  A visitation will be held at Jeffcoat Trant starting at 10:00.  A private burial will be held at Rosemere Cemetery.

Mr. Huling was born on July 23, 1934, in Opelika, Alabama and went to be with the Lord on August 14, 2024.  He owned and operated Opelika Tire Company for over 40 years and was a devoted member of First Methodist Church.  He loved the City of Opelika and was involved in many civic affairs. He served as Commissioner of Public Works  and was mayor of Opelika. He served on many community boards such as Kiwanis, Jaycees, Industrial Development Board, Housing Authority and Cemetery Advisor Board.

He was preceded in death by his wife of 65 years Julia Varner Huling, his parents Sam Robert Huling, SR and Willie Lee (Billie) Huling, his son Fletcher Huling, and his granddaughter Laura Leigh Tye. He is survived by his, daughter Libby Tye, sons Rob Huling (Leah) and John Huling (Brigitte)  Grandchildren, Davis ( Michelle) Keith (Meredith) Tye, Anne Marie (Michael) Vang, Andy, Hannah, Sadie Anne, Seth and Rachel Huling and great grandchildren Marjie and Fletcher Tye.

   In lieu of flowers, the family requests that donations be made the First  Methodist Church of Opelika.
