Thomas Lamar Curry, III, loving husband, father of three children, and grandfather to eight grandchildren, passed away August 11, 2023 at 70 years of age. Born in Opelika, Alabama, May 30, 1953, Thomas was the son of the late Thomas L. Curry, Jr. and the late Clara H. Curry.
Thomas attended Opelika High School in Opelika, Alabama. He retired from Ampex Corporation, which later became Quantegy, where he worked for years with many friends who knew him as Tommy. Tommy also was an avid outdoorsman, forming close relationships with many through hunting and fishing. Tommy was also a friend to many through church over the years and was very devout in his faith as a Christian. Tommy was preceded in death by his loving wife Charlotte McCurdy Curry of Opelika, Alabama. Thomas is survived by sons, Stephen Lamar Curry (Jennifer) of Auburn, Michael Lanier Murphy of Marion, and daughter Crystal Dianne Curry of Auburn. Thomas treasured each of his grandchildren dearly - Stephen Andrew Curry, Thomas Lamar Curry IV, Jackson Caleb Curry, Mary Emma Claire Curry, and Ethan Finn Curry, all of Auburn; Madison Faith Murphy of Marion; Britian Skyler Murphy of Opelika; and Preston Manuel Curry of Auburn. Thomas is also survived by a sister, Robin Curry Armstrong (Walter) of Dadeville, as well as numerous nieces, nephews, and cousins. In addition, Thomas is survived by a special step-mother, Nell Buffington (Everette) of Waverly.
A memorial service celebrating Thomas’ life will be held at 11:00 am on Monday, August 21st, 2023 at Jeffcoat-Trant Funeral Home Chapel with Reverend Randy Johnson officiating. Visitation will be held one hour prior. The family requests that in lieu of flowers, donations be made to either the Autism Society of America or the Alzheimer’s Foundation of America.
