Thomas S. "Steve" Clemmons Obituary

Steve passed away peacefully at home on Monday, December 30th with family after battling ALS and cancer for over a year. He will be missed greatly, but we celebrate the life he lived and rejoice in the healing he now has in heaven with his Lord and Savior, Jesus Christ!

Steve was born on December 31, 1960 in Sierra Vista, AZ. He is survived by his loving wife of 38 years Rhee Clemmons; two children Eric (Lana) Clemmons and Erin Clemmons; two grandsons Zeke and Luke Clemmons; one sister Pam (Mark) Brooks; one brother-in-law Randy (Roxanne) Pugh; nephew Ryan (Amanda, Zeb, Annie Pearl) Pugh; nieces Amy Pugh and Ashlee Pugh; and his many loving family and friends from Oak Hill Church. He was preceded in death by his parents Tom and Mary Clemmons and Father and Mother-in-Law Floyd and Gerry Pugh.

Just as Paul wrote in Ephesians 5 and 6, Steve was an example of a husband and father who was above reproach in how God calls a man to treat his wife and family. He loved, served, and cherished his wife, his children, and his grandchildren, reflecting Christ through those acts. Steve was an overjoyed and proud Grandpaw to Zeke and Luke. He lit up when seeing or talking about them. We are so thankful we get to see a part of Steve in them everyday!

Steve had a playful personality and was a natural-born leader. He worked hard and was a gifted craftsman. He would often joke that he was a “Jack of all trades and master of none.” But most who knew, served, or worked with him know that he was closer to a “Master” of most trades than a “Jack.” From his career as a general contractor to his talents with woodworking, electrical work, plumbing, welding/soldering, leather working, lay speaking, or being a shade- tree mechanic, there was not much he could not do. His personality and sense of humor could take over a room. His leadership, work ethic, and personality always drew people to want to be on his team. Like all the best leaders, Steve saw the best qualities in others and helped to cultivate and nurture those talents.

One of Steve’s favorite teams was the one at Oak Hill Church where he was a faithful and loyal member for almost four decades. He loved to serve the Lord, the people of the church, and the community.

As he so often said when joking with someone who made him shake his head and laugh, “God broke the mold with you.” He did with Steve as well, and we are so thankful that He did. It was a blessing from the Lord to have him in our lives to love us, correct us, teach us, and laugh with us.
