William “Bill” Ruffin Strickland, 90, of Auburn, Alabama passed away July 14, 2021 at Arbor Springs Health and Rehab in Opelika, AL.
Mr. Strickland was preceded in death by his wife of 59 years, Rachel Davis Strickland. He is survived by three daughters as well as a host of grandchildren, great-grandchildren, nieces, and nephews. He was also blessed with many close friends in the community and was a beloved resident of Arbor Springs, serving as President of the Resident Council during his time there.
Mr. Strickland was born in Cross Creek, North Carolina to the late Mr. and Mrs. Ruffin P. (Julia) Strickland. He was a graduate of Fayetteville High School (NC) and Duke University. He moved to Auburn in 1960 and resided on Felton Lane in Cary Woods for over 50 years. He was a long-time manager with the JC Penney Company and also co-owned The Clothes Rack with his wife from 1974-1995. Mr. Strickland loved college athletics, particularly basketball, and was previously a Scholarship Donor to the basketball program at Auburn University. He was a longtime member of Auburn United Methodist Church.
A memorial service will be held in the Chapel at Auburn United Methodist Church on Friday, July 23, 2021 at 10:00 AM. Rev. Julie Hare of AUMC will officiate. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to Emory Eye Center Research or Bethany House Hospice of Auburn, AL.
